I did my post-graduate diploma through the Hahnemann College of Homeopathy in London, studying alongside a full clinic here in Hyderabad. That is where I learned to take a case properly — not the fifteen-minute version, the full hour. And in the clinic I did what every homeopath does. I said yes.

Someone came in with psoriasis they had been managing for eleven years, and I said yes. Someone came in whose daughter snored every night and caught every infection in her class, and I said yes. They had all been somewhere before me — usually several somewheres. They arrived with a plastic bag of old prescriptions and a particular kind of tiredness. Not from the illness. From being told, over and over, that this was simply something they would manage for the rest of their life.

Most of them got better. Some did not — and those are the ones I still think about. Because in a few of those cases I had seen it coming. By the second or third month I could tell the case was not moving, and I carried on anyway, because they had already been let down everywhere else and I did not want to be one more door closing. I told myself I was being kind. I was not being kind. I was using up months they did not have to spare.

So now the first hour does something different. It is not only about what treatment — it is about whether this is the right treatment for you at all. I take a case for six or nine months, with milestones we track and a finish line we agree on. And to be able to promise that honestly, I have to be willing to say, at the end of that first hour: I don't think I am the right person for this one. Here is who I would see, and I would go this week.

That is not a door closing. It is the same hour of my attention, spent on getting you to the right place faster. And when I do say yes, you know it is because I believe I can help — not because you walked in. That is worth something on both sides.
